Using Probeware with Reinventing Science Kits |
| Reinventing Science Kits are great
for observing science principles directly, and for the measurement of
quantities by normal or analog means that you may already have access to
in your school or lab such as volt meters or thermometers. However
we have also created optional extension activities that make use of
Probeware technology in order to expand upon what is possible using
ordinary means.
Given that the things being measured are common values like voltage, current, resistance, light level, heat, etc etc it is possible to use any brand or type of data logging or probeware devices with these kits. However we have chosen to focus on the use of Coach software by CMA because it supports the widest range of probeware hardware and sensors. Therefore our extensions work directly with CoachLab II, ULAB, TI-CBL, TI-CBL2, Vernier LabPro, CMA Sensors, TI Sensors, or Vernier Sensors. The ideas used work indirectly with any probeware system. |

| Pictured Above: A screenshot of Coach Software being used to measure and record voltage, current, and light level with our "Reinventing Edison: Build your own Light Bulb" kit. In this example the ULAB portable data logger was used along with three "intelligent" sensors from CMA, Differential Voltage (0 to 10 Volts) Differential Current (0 to 10 Amps) and Light (0 to 150 Klux). Individual graphs for each sensor are shown along with a graph for resistance which was calculated by the software using simple Ohm's law given data from the other sensors. |
| Check back after November 15th for free downloads, data-sets, and more information about using Coach software, various Probeware hardware, and the "Reinventing Science" kits together. |
